Try downloading memtest86 and run a full scan overnight. Bad RAM is a very real possibility.

I had also massive problems with RAM in the beginning. Sometime the PC booted into OS X, sometimes it crashed while booting. First I thought it has something to do with overclocking, but it was the RAM.
One day I swapped my CPU cooler. Had to remove the mainboard and while I removed the 2 sdram dimms I saw a little sticker on it, stating that running at 1066 MHz needs a voltage of 2,2V. My BIOS was still in auto and was using only 1,8V. So, after swapping the cooler, I changed to 2,2V and voila... no more problems. Maybe your sdram dimms are needing a higher voltage too, or they are defect.

Thanks for the replies. I will check the manufacturer specs. I haven't had any luck with MemTest. I tried 3.5 and got weird results. Most tests would fail, or rather just hang. No matter what combination of DIMMs I tested, they all hung.
Then I read on Wikipedia that 3.5 has major problems with QuadCore systems. Then I read about memtest86+. This is supposed to be much better for newer systems, but my ISO wouldn't even boot. (go figure) So, I will definitely check your recommendation. Thanks, 10TB.

Well, I don't think it is memory at this point. Even with 1 stick, I still get the weird video at the exact same point everytime. I am going to "rent" a card from BB and test I suppose.

Could it have to do with the fact that I was using a 10.5.4 retail disc?

This guide is slightly outdated now, and will be completely obsolete with the release of Snow Leopard. I am working on a guide for Snow Leopard that should be ready soon.
